I have been a black republican for over 30 years. In the last 5 years I have found a new look party that I questioned for it’s inclusion of my values and beliefs. I agreed wholeheartedly with the statement of Colin Powell during the election that many offend but i would not allow the few to change my views. Well now, I see a majority of the GOP defining the “Base” as something I will not be a part of. After 30 years I have change party affiliation to independent. So I ask you two questions. Who do you think the base is, and do your truthfully believe the quote BASE would ask you to eat at the same table. My former party has turned their back on working republicans and left black republicans looking foolish in their defense. Believe me. You look foolish.

    Brady,
Like me, you were a Republican for a reason. You, no doubt, believe that everyone should have as much freedom as possible to develop their personal talents, to be the best they can be. I bet that you believe this freedom is so much for valuable than any hand out, reparation or patronization of any kind. Those believes are what makes me a Republican and they matter to me more than any discussion of race. I guess I am part of the “base” – a white female, but I believe the very basis of the Republican party is that EVERYONE should have a chance – but not necessarily an extra chance. I believe that is what Lincoln believed. It is what I believe. I would fight for you to not be oppressed in any way, but if I can beat you at the same game, I would not feel guilty. I believe there is room, however, for everyone to be number one. It is not white over black, or black over white. What we should be fighting for is right over wrong – an eternal fight. Please come back to the Republican party for the right reasons you have always had. Yes, there are racists in the “base” and guess what, there are racists in the Democrat “base” as well. What matters is that YOU are the best you can be, and that is a REPUBLICAN position.
